Preparing yourself for trekking through the forest to meet the chimpanzees of Uganda is a must. Make sure you are healthy, wear the right clothes and pack lunch and enough water. Knowing what to expect is one of the most important aspects prior to seeing the chimps. On the whole, be respectful to the animals, the environment, the staff, and visitors. What to wear on a Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest?
Here’s a list of tips on how to dress for a chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park Uganda:
- Dress in layered clothes with natural colors in cool cotton or moisture-wicking fibers
- Wear long trousers and long-sleeved shirts to protect your body from bugs and scratches
- Wear water-resistant, comfortable walking/hiking shoes;
- Pack gaiters to keep mud, sand, or water out of your shoes. The larger ones will keep the bottoms of your trousers dry. In fact, I wore gaiters on both chimp and gorilla trekking and was quite happy with it;
- Put a rain jacket in your daypack;
- Optionally a hat and/or scarf;
- Pack gardening gloves to protect your hands by grabbing the branches for support. To be sure, I took them with me in my daypack but in the end, I didn’t use them;
- Do NOT wear animal prints or military camouflage designs.
What to bring for a chimpanzee trekking in Uganda?

- Bring enough water, since you can’t buy water during the trekking;
- Packed lunch and optionally energy bars as you will have your lunch inside the forest;
- Biodegradable insect repellant and sunscreen;
- Wet wipes or a small microfiber towel for rinsing hands and face;
- Mini first-aid kit with antiseptic and plasters
- Camera equipment and/or your smartphone;
- Rain sleeve to protect your camera;
- Rain jacket;
- Comfortable layered clothes.

A portable Camera
Tourists are reminded to always carry their quality portable camera with superb zooming ability, memory card, extra charged batteries, cameras are used by guests to take photos of the birds and primates encountered on the walk.
Carry Enough Drinking Water
This adventure experience requires one to walk for some good time so participants are requested to have enough water to take when they are thirsty.
Sunscreens
This product helps to protect one’s skin from the strong sun rays also wear sun glasses to protect your eyes from the strong light rays and brimmed sunhat this hat protects tourists from the direct scorching sun light.
Pair of Binoculars
These specimens are vital to tourists they help with great views of birds in a far distance and those that might be hiding in the tree canopies.
Insect Repellent
Tourists are requested to pack insect Fuge because in Uganda we have harmful insects like tick’s, mosquitoes which spread deadly diseases to human beings that may led to loss of lives. Guests should apply this repellent to their bodies to avoid insect’s bites since once one makes use of the repellent is protected and free from insect bites and itchiness.
Portable comfortable Pair of Shoes
Participants are highly advised to pack light comfortable shoes, that fits them well for comfort and easy movements because some trailheads are at time are slippery and muddy. These shoes protect tourist’s ankles and feet against any injury, providing warmth and cushion on the feet when walking while exploring this wetland.
Carry a portable Water Proof Bag
Make it a point and pack a sturdy water proof bag that can withstand the bad weather conditions, purposely to keep your essential personal items like drinks eatables, phones, note books, binoculars, cameras among others. In case it rains or mist and mud surface they will not be affected since water cannot penetrate through the bag.
First Aid Box
When going for the Bigodi Swamp Walk participants are advised to move with portable first aid box containing basic items namely cotton, bandage, razorblade, plaster, wipes, pain killers among others to be used immediately one gets injured to act as a first aid treatment.
Clothing’s to Pack
One should pack long-sleeved shirts, blouse, long trouser, gloves, thick pair of stocks, waterproof jacket or coat to avoid penetration of water in case it rains.
